About the CatClamp®

The CatClamp® was invented by the owner of American Welding Inc., a reputable custom fabrication shop in Toledo, OH. A long time customer with a large fleet of vehicles approached the company about solving the problem of catalytic converter theft on their fleet.

After witnessing thousands of dollars of metal theft during his 15 years in business, the owner saw an opportunity to assist people in protecting themselves and their vehicles from these offenders. He knows too well the lengths criminals will go to for scrap metal and states, "There is nothing worse than a thief."

The CatClamp® was developed through a coordinated effort among engineers, metalworking professionals, and large fleet managers.

The CatClamp® has proven itself to be a superior product and sets the benchmark for catalytic converter security.

The CatClamp® is by far the best engineered and most versatile converter lock on the market offering multiple layers of security and features that the competition simply cannot offer.

The CatClamp® is the patented original converter lock, and it has proven to be 99.9% effective for over ten years all around the world.

Use of CatClamp products is recommended by United States Department of Justice, registered Secured by Design/Sold Secure Gold standard product in the UK.

How It Works

The CatClamp® is installed by placing the split clamp assemblies in place before and after the converter. The cable is then routed through both split clamps and around or through a durable portion of the vehicle chassis wherever possible and back through both split clamps again. On a vehicle with a frame, the frame and/or cross members are used as durable attachment points, on a vehicle without a frame (unibody construction) anti-sway bar and/or engine/transmission brackets are utilized as durable attachment points.

The Patented CatClamp® design requires only a 3/8" hole/opening for the wire rope to pass through and secure the CatClamp® to the vehicle chassis. This process is repeated until all cable is consumed, and each of the eight holes in both split clamps is used.

Lastly, the four bolts are tightened with a standard socket and the included tamper-proof installation tool. As the bolts are tightened, the clamps tighten down equally on the exhaust pipe and cable.

FAQ

Will the Universal CatClamp® kits will fit my vehicle?

If your converter was accessible to be stolen, our product will most likely fit. Our Universal Standard kit and Universal Maxx kit fit vehicles with common pipe diameters of 1.75" to 3" into and out of the catalytic converter. These kits work best with 3" space around the point of contact for each of the two clamps.

Can the thief just cut on either side of the CatClamp® and take the catalytic converter and the CatClamp?

No, the CatClamp® kit is attached to the frame of the vehicle up to seven times using tough to cut aircraft-grade wire rope.

What if my vehicle has a unibody construction and doesn't have a frame?

On a vehicle without a frame (unibody construction), the anti-sway bar and/or engine/transmission brackets are utilized as durable attachment points. The Patented CatClamp® design requires only a 3/8" hole/opening for the wire rope to pass through and secure the CatClamp® to the vehicle chassis up to seven times.

What if my vehicle has more than one catalytic converter?

One CatClamp® kit is recommended for each catalytic converter you wish to protect. If your vehicle has two catalytic converters, you may require two kits.

Can I install the CatClamp® myself, or do I need to take it to a mechanic?

The CatClamp® can easily be installed by anyone with basic mechanical knowledge. Installation is much easier on a lift, but many customers install the CatClamp® without one. The installation tool is included. Average installation time for a CatClamp ® kit is 30-60 minutes
